Another Lifestyle Manual -not! - Rated
Just what I don't need, another cheesy lifestyle book full of Americanisms, Hershey bars, golf and baseball. And wasn't this the kind of thing that I tried so hard to avoid in my work life? The alarm bells ring - is this to be a honeyed invitation to the world of Prosperity Theology? Have faith, have it all, in this world and the next.
But wait! Read further. This guy is an engaging writer, it is no surprise, that he is a New York Times Best Selling Author. This is a thoroughly practical book, good humoured and above all God centred. It is about finding happiness in what God desires of you not in self-seeking. The things of God come first.
Lucado has real compassion for those without Christ. He is keenly aware of the human predicament and deals with it gently and lovingly. He is no less helpful regarding the position of beleaguered believers who might be weakening in the face of an increasingly demanding worldview that has no time for the things of real value that Jesus Christ brings.
In short Lucado proves himself to be a warm-hearted and persuasive encourager -an exhorter. His style is easy and he consistently points the reader to God's word, though in this he wears his learning lightly, showing a keen sense of audience. Though written for the American market I found his introductory anecdotes very helpful in extending my understanding.
Cure for a common problem - Rated
I've always been a little stuck on knowing what my spiritual gifts might be abd how to use them, so I was really pleased with the issues addressed in Lucado's new book. His style is easy to relate to and he expresses himself with humor (and lots of it!) But he stays focused on the subject of 'finding your sweet spot'. Very helpful and inspiring read.
