An untrustworthy Bible tool - Rated
You can usually tell how trustworthy a Bible dictionary/encyclopedia is by how well it deals with the creation account and here the New Bible Dictionary fails miserably. If we look up the entry for "Genesis", we are told that "scientifically the origin of man is still obscure" and that "it is safest for the Christian to be cautious about the subject" and to "await further evidence before rushing to hasty conclusions". Got that? The writer is telling us that the Bible isn't the word of God at all, but merely a book that shouldn't be trusted until/unless scientific evidence proves it to be correct. In short, the writer believes that science outranks God. The entry for "Creation" builds from similarly sinister presuppositions.

The New Bible Dictionary first appeared in 1962. It is one of many great books that was written, to a large degree, in Tyndale House, Cambridge. It has been updated several times to include new discoveries and to improve the already terrific original dictionary. The scholars who wrote the articles are some of the best-known, most-respected evangelical scholars today.

A great selection of articles covering major biblical terms, themes and ideas. For the most part, clear and thorough, though occasionally too wordy.
