How An Encyclopedia Can Be Interesting - Rated 4/5
This book has helped me out on many occasions. Wither it be with examples of other scribes work, or examples of scripts & techniques. What I like are the clear photographs which follow the step by step instructions. This book helped encourage me to experiment with my calligraphy. It is a book I continue to use. The other good thing is the section at the back of the book. This is called Themes & has many examples of well known calligraphers work. In finishing as the advert says, "It does exactly what it says on the tin".

The Encyclopeida of Calligraphy - Rated 5/5
This is a really useful book. It takes a good variety of alphabets and breaks them down to make it easy to start using them.

Information on equipment is also useful.

Good for improvers - Rated 4/5
This is one of the most useful introductions to the techniques of calligraphy, including pen and brush lettering, gilding, the use of inks, paints, etc. Many inspiring examples of work from several artists. However, the material is not laid out in the most sensible manner e.g. the presentation of different scripts is scattered throughout the first part of the book. 'The Complete Calligrapher' by Emma Callery presents the same material in a more organised way. 'Enrich your calligraphy', also by Diane Hardy-Wilson, is a wonderful sequel for the more advanced calligrapher.
