The Right to Shout - Rated 5/5
Clarice Lispector is one of the finest writer of Brazilian Literature. The 'Hour of the Star' is the story of Macabea. Furthermore this is also the story of the narrator who is trying to tell the story of Macabea. The Narrator struggles to write the story of this 'Nordestina'. Macabea is the representation of the subclass, she is a typist who does know how to type, she irritates him because she does not make any effort to change. She is not aware of her situation. The narrator potentially could have changed the story or her situation, but he accepts her condition of no change and no progress. The 'Right to Shout' is just one of thirteen titles created by Lispector for 'The Hour of the Star'. Moreover the story is a question, musically told, to be re-read several times and once again.

The feminine answer to Kafka and Joyce - Rated 5/5
Claris Lispector is the feminine answer to Kafka and Joyce. She writes with clarity and lucidity, flows from one reality to a parallel one. Her stories are often disturbing, painfully real and emotionally charged, but always full with deep understanding of human relationship and emotional realities. Claris Lispector writes like a witch, and you are willingly allowing her to enchant you. Even when she talks about events, Lispector is looking inside - into the depth of the soul. If you liked The Hour of the Star, you will love Family Ties and Soulstorm.
