Shame about the translation - Rated
A fascinating collection of stories, but not well served either by the translator, who lacks the necessary fluency in English, or the publishers, who don't appear to have used even a proof reader, let alone an editor. Even basic errors haven't been picked up on ('his mother', when referring to a woman's mother, for example), and the style is wildly uneven. It's a real shame that almost the only access English language readers have to contemporary Iranian prose literature is through such a poor translation.
