Concise overview of hypnosis - Rated This book is not a "how to" manual, but rather a concise overview of many different aspects of hypnosis. It indeed deals with the "essentials" that any practicing hypnotist should know. Even though these are "essentials", they are not covered in any traditional hypnosis training, so anyone attending hypnosis training may benefit from this information. The information in this book has a wide scope, but it is offered in a concise form - a like a review of essential points. Some of the areas covered are misconceptions of hypnosis, contexts of hypnosis, human suggestibility, conscious and unconscious processing, susceptibility to hypnosis, physiological and psychological characteristics of hypnotic state, physical and environmental variables for doing hypnosis, structuring suggestions, patterns of hypnotic communication, suggestibility tests, formal hypnotic inductions, naturalistic hypnotic inductions, hypnotic phenomena, self-hypnosis, therapeutic utilization of hypnosis, sample trance scripts, ethical guidelines and much more. Sound research-based mindful introduction - Rated As a chartered psychologist, I approached this title with a mixture of curiosity and skepticism. I was not only surprised but delighted by the clarity, incisiveness and balanced caution with which Micheal Yapko introduction clinical hypnosis. He underpins his account of this class of intervention with reference to relevant cognitive and social research in a manner that neither trivialises nor makes claims beyond the evidence. If only other introductions to delicate areas of intervention were half as sound! Hypnotism essentials? I think not. - Rated I have to say this is one of the first books i have read on hypnotism and i was bitterly dissapointed. Alot of the book involves putting into words what people who either are or arent interested in hypnotism already know about, such as a whole chapter on the misconceptions of hypnotism, covering things like how you don't need to be weak minded to be hypnotised. Sorry, but I don't recommend this book at all as even as a beginner, i knew most things in it.

Hypnotism essentials? I think not. - Rated 1/5
I have to say this is one of the first books i have read on hypnotism and i was bitterly dissapointed. Alot of the book involves putting into words what people who either are or arent interested in hypnotism already know about, such as a whole chapter on the misconceptions of hypnotism, covering things like how you don't need to be weak minded to be hypnotised. Sorry, but I don't recommend this book at all as even as a beginner, i knew most things in it.
