Customer Reviews

Such an honest tale! - Rated 5/5
Having been recommended The Catcher in the Rye by my English teacher when I was 16 I remember the empathy I flet for Holdon whilest reading it. It is a book that every teenager should read, and which will almost undoubtedly remain with them forever! It is an honest tale of a troubled teenager, using wonderfully realistic language. Despite the fact that the book was written in the earlier half of the last century it remains the most perceptive piece of literary work in regards to teenage life that I have ever read. It encaptulates the lack of direction and enthusiasm by a teenage boy for a world that just doesn't seem to hold any interest and the people around him who he can not relate to, their thoughts and actions totally alien to him. I recommend this book to anyone, it is a must read and one the best contempory classics of all time. If you want a present for a teenage girl or boy, this is just the thing!

The Real Deal - Rated 4/5
I am fifteen years old and I was honestly shocked at how realistic the character of Holden is as a teenager. I noticed that a lot of times he would say something that would be considered bad grammar or something like that, but it's really how people talk! I'm banned from using that kind of talk when I write essays or stories or something, but I love it that someone finally had enough sense to make something real. I also love it that Holden saw everything for what it really is. He's not like most other people. But you know what? Neither am I.
