A balanced and accurate account - Rated 5/5
This is a thoroughly well-researched investigation into Opus Dei. It is objective and honest. The author is a well-known Italian journalist who is not himself a member of Opus Dei, but who came to this project with a commendably open mind. For anyone who has had enough of childish conspiracy theories and who wants to know the truth about Opus Dei, this is undoubtedly the place to find it. Highly recommended.

Brilliant! - Rated 5/5
I have just finished reading this book after several anti-opus dei books. Messori's annalysis is both reasonable and deep. I have read many criticisms of the work by people who look at things from a purely human way. This book tries to objectively annalyse Opus Dei without losing sight of the spiritual-outlook necessary. Sacrifice, from a purely human outlook, is the most ridiculous thing on earth. But from a Christian spiritual outlook, it is a supreme act of Love. Messori tries to explain Opus Dei humanly but realises that some aspects of "The Work" are simply Christian/Catholic. If you are not "a believer" it is natural for you to find some things scandalous (ie. the ciclice) & difficult to understand. He does not avoid any criticisms but deals with them one by one.
