Same book, different title - Rated 1/5
When I was originally a member of the author's new kadampa tradition (NKT), I was very impressed with this book. Being new to Buddhism, I did not realize that it was lifted completely from other sources (including from the author's other books). Indeed, large passages are republished here verbatim from the New Meditation Handbook, Introduction to Buddhism, and served as material for the repetitive How To Solve Our Human Problems.

The author is like a one-trick-pony, expounding the same lines of thought over and over as if it comes in a different package, it is a different book. Additionally, the 'author' can barely speak English and it is doubtful he actually wrote whatever original text prompted this series of repetition. One or more of his hapless and uncredited followers obviously did the ghost-writing and worship every word as if their 'third Buddha' actually wrote it.

Spare yourself the time, money and misdirection of this cult leader and pick up a book by a genuine Buddhist teacher. Any book published by the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT) would be considerably more helpful with regards to starting on the path.

This is the best buddhism book i own, it fills your mind and heart with thought provoking words that can and will alter your life if you open your mind to Geshle's words-his explanations of seemingly diffucult to comprehend subjects, are conveyed easy to read and practice, as practice is the key to this book - excellent book

SELF-HELP with a Buddhist Flavour - Rated 5/5
This book is a selection of Geshe Kelsang's writings taken from other extant books he has written .It is aimed at those who have little or no knowledge of Buddhism , but who might benefit from some of the teachings of the tradition , as such it is arguably an excellent 'self-help' manual for both buddhists and non-buddhists alike . This book contains advice and practices which could very possibly help some people overcome alcoholism , drug addiction and suicidal leanings due to to negative states of mind . Due to the fact that this book is also available as an audio C.D , it might therefore make an excellent gift even for those who are not capable of reading a book . In presenting us with these teachings in this way it is possible that Geshe Kelsang is the closest thing to a modern 'saint' that we have available to us today .
P.S:
Another Amazon reviewer has pointed out that they didn't like the suggestion found in the book that we should view all other people as our 'mothers' , and that they found the Dalai Lama's books to be more accessible ;I feel I must come to Geshe Kelsang's defence here and state that although it is true that this 'mothers' concept is found in the book, that in stating this Geshe Kelsang is actually adhering to a Tibetan Buddhist tradition , the meaning of which is that over an immense period of time , owing to the phenomena of re-incarnation , each and every person plays different roles in one another's lives , and that even those we might feel are our enemies today , might , at least theoretically, have played some nurturing role towards us at some time . The Dalai Lama actually also endorses this tradition , with the afterthought that those who have had bad relationships with their own mother might find it more constructive to use a different 'nurturing' individual as an alternative in the contemplation . Furthermore the concept of 'Samsara' is found throughout Tibetan Buddhism .

MY FAVIOURATE EVER BOOK - Rated 5/5
This is true, this is my faviourate book, not one of my faviourates, my actual faviourate book that I have ever read.
This book describes how to transform a persons life using A Buddhist Way of Understanding.
After reading the Tibetan Book of Living and Dying, I never expected another book to turn out better and I tell you, the meditations sent shockwaves through my mind and really did change my life. This book uses the principles of practicing inner peace, compassion, and various other meditations to help a person in their daily life. If you are a person who meditates frequently, I also definately have to recommend this book. This book is also not one that can be read over night and the author Kelsang Gyatso even advised that people read it over '100' times.
I must say that this book really does show one in detail how to find happiness in the mind. And when I finished the book, I did not feel like picking up any other book... And so no longer do I have to keep buying books that say Buddhist happiness that only gives simple methods and simple sentences that are nice to read, but do not change my life anymore than that. At least now I have found a book that gives what the title says!
The meditations on inner peace, up to meditations on emptiness in this book can be so powerful and with writings on applying it to everyday working life, I only wish that I brought this book earlier in my life.
The presentation is clear and I can see from reading this that the author has realisations and experiences of what he is talking about and whats more is that it has helped to change my life. In the glossary there is a 50 page section on how to deal with one's anger, this can actually be applied to everyone's life as anger in Buddhist terms affects nearly every single person in this world. And applying this to my relationship has been so helpful, I don't know why I ever brought those Men From Mars and Women from Venus books, as this book solves it all and you actually feel that you have changed too.
As I write this I have the book in front of me now, and sometimes I pick it up and just open it to a page and just even a paragraph seems powerful enough to pick myself up. I cannot explain how, but no other book has left me like this.
You certainly have no worries here with this book, every page is powerful from page 1. Even the first paragraph as to why we do not feel happy is something that I find really powerful to meditate on.
