I bought this book to get some basic information on pole & whip fishing. I have fished with rod reel & line for many years and always thought pole fishing a bit cumbersome but decided I ought to give it a go and wanted detailed advice on tackle, setting up and rigs. I tried the DVD's which were available and they were interesting but concentrated on techinque rather than technology. This book gave me everything I expected from it with a wealth of detail in a fairly small book. Unlike a previous reviewer, I thought it was exactly as described and I did not notice any blatant advertising - indeed the recommended products included a range of manufacturers I found the Question and Answer section particularly useful and found information I had been trying to find for some time about setting up tackle for whip fishing
Strongly recommended
A big fish in a small pond - Rated
I searched for a comprehensive book about pole fishing that wasn't too out of date and there is only one; this is definitely it. I can't imagine how it could be improved on other than updated because pole tactics and equipment change rapidly. If you are already very knowledgeable about the pole then it's probably not for you but other than that it's got to be on every aspiring/improving pole angler's shopping list.
My first return to Amazon in over four years - Rated
I returned this book to Amazon with the following message: Although nicely presented, the topic of this book is of a very specific area, something that is not immediately clear to any beginner online. I am also irritated by the fact that the book is like a continuous advertisement for the tackle company Bob Nudd uses, and for Bob Nudd himself, who stares back at you in various contrived poses on perhaps every page. While I would probably admit that this book may be perfect for those taking up pole fishing (see great review above), this is one of the rare books that I really don't want to own, even despite the relatively cheap price. I'm more interested in fishing than I am in famous fishermen.
A must for all anglers new to Pole Fishing - Rated
I have been looking for a book to take me through the steps of pole fishing - this IS the one! Bob takes you through the process in clear and easy to undertand steps with photographs and diagrams. The book is slit into many sections - buying your pole, making your rigs though to catching and landing that dream double figure Carp. A must book!
