Customer Reviews

map please - Rated 3/5
ok book, has alota lists of bars and shops which is good and a nice condensed history, but really would have been nice if it had a map of bristol in it!

Laughed till I was wet (nearly) - Rated 5/5
I'm a Bristolian and this guide book was two sadly rare things in this life. One, funny - I nearly wet myself over some of the bar reviews and two, truthful. Gil Gillespie is a god. Whatever your connection to Bristol, this is an essential purchase. The Naked Guide to Bath, which I bought after this one, is equally funny.

a REAL guide - Rated 5/5
as a new student to the city i've found this is the only 'REAL' guide book to Bristol, written by somebody who actually has an opinion. Some of the descriptions in the listings section made me laugh out loud too.

Truly alternative - Rated 5/5
I bought a copy of this guide at the recent Alternative Bristol event in Borders and I reckon it's just about perfect. It's taught me loads of stuff I didn't know about Bristol, best of all I've managed to find nearly every bit of incredible graffiti they show in the book. Knockout.

The best book ever written about Bristol - Rated 5/5
Take no notice of A reader from Bath this is easily the best book ever written about Bristol and one of the most interesting city guides I have ever read. The book doesn't go down the normal path of most guides prefering to give the reader a tour of the city via its postcodes instead and from BS1 to BS8 it is a thoroughly riveting read, both informative and very funny. As well as this there are chapters on the Bristol music scene, local politics, celebs, history and more and listings for restaurants, pubs, clubs and shopping, all quite brilliantly written and refreshingly truthful. The book has already become something of a bible among Bristol's creative communities - Christchurch studios have their own copy! - and is currently book of the month in Borders on Queens Road. Essential reading for anyone who lives in Bristol or is just passing through.
