An excellent beadwork book - Rated 5/5
This book was the first book on beadwork that I purchased and I still come back to it. It has an amazing collection of different techniques many of which have been further developed in other books. There are some superb black and white photographs illustrating the patterns but it can be difficult to work out which illustration in the photographs is referring to which pattern. However the black and white typed illustrations (remember this book was written in the days before most people had computers) work well and the accompanying text gives clear instructions for each pattern in the book.

This is one that will remain a treasure on my beadwork bookshelf for many years to come.

Brilliant !!!! - Rated 5/5
Never judge a book by its cover!!! It looks dull and small but it is packed with great information and extremely clear instructions! Lots and lots of ideas, packed with beautiful beaded chain patterns and stories about where they come from. Looks a little like a notebook inside. I just love it!!

Dissapointing if you wanted the bead loom part.............. - Rated 2/5
I recently bought a bead loom, and needed inspiration in the form of patterns and designs. My loom came with an instruction sheet.

This book is a slim paperback American book about American Indian beading techniques. It contains 80 pages. Only 5 pages are dedicated to bead looms (and one of those is a grid for designing your own pattern).

The book is full of ways of making other bead items and is probably quite good for that. There are lots of hand drawn illustrations but very few photos, all of which are in black and white. The photos show a collection of items so it is difficult to see the detail.

Bead loom tips.

Most of the instructions in the book have already been described on the instruction sheet with the loom. There are a few tips that may come in useful to new bead loomers - such as how to make your own crude loom and advice that the one I bought is not much good (thanks), but there is only one sample pattern given. I bought this book on the strength of a previous review - but wish that I hadn't now. There is one technique detailed that I may try for making tubular beaded items. But the book warns that you must be careful with designs so that Indian people are not offended!

One useful tip that I was given in a craft shop was that cross stitch patterns could be used adapting the colours to those available.

This is my beading bible. - Rated 5/5
I was a complete beginner to beading when I bought this book and I have to say that it is fantastic. The instructions are so clear and easy to follow and the book has helpful diagrams throughout. I started out with the simple designs and in no time at all I was making beautiful, complex pieces. This book shows you how to do the basic beading stitches, such as peyote weave, and has lots of step-by-step projects. It has sections on loom work, off-loom work and embroidery. I have bought other beading books, but always go back to this one - it is my beading bible and well worth the bargain price.
