Better than original - Rated
A riproaring adventure that continues on from Tim's previous novel Corsair. Whilst the first was a little slow to begin with this one doesn't hesitate and goes full tilt to the yard arm with all guns blazing. Cracking adventure, intriguing characters with just a dash of luck in the right places. This makes this latest offering not only hard to put down but a tale to keep the colours flying. An epic in the making in much the same way as Tim's Viking trilogy.

I can't agree with the previous review as I enjoyed this book, as much as its predecessor, "Corsair."

I thought it was fast moving, very knowledgeable, and thoroughly enjoyable, and, frankly, I can't wait for the next adventure of Hector Lynch.

Very,very annoying - Rated
I can remember trying to read one of the author's "hugely successful" Viking books a couple of years ago and having to give up on it. Sadly, the same has just happened with this one.
Severin has an intensely annoying habit of treating the reader like a schoolboy who has to have everything explained to him. I find this extremely irritating and very patronising. Not only that, he does it at the expense of the story, which is patchy at best. Characters are unbelievable - I even found myself thinking of 'Famous Five' in that here's good old Hector [he's only 20] who sails the Atlantic with his mates, falls in with pirates, who are really quite decent chaps who all seem to like him really and.....get the picture?
If you want a lecture on 17th century Caribbean, give it a go. If you want a good, thrilling read, look somewhere else.
