Essential reading for National Certificate for Dental Nurses - Rated
I am a Dental Nurse Tutor teaching the National Certificate for Dental Nurses. This comprehensive ninth edition is essential reading for students studying for this qualification. New additions to this edition include an update on Cross Infection and instrument lists at the end of each chapter that correspond with the 'spotter' list in the end examination.
If you are a dental nurse studying for the National Vocational Qualification in Oral Health Care this book may help, however it will not be sufficient reading to enable you to complete the units in the NVQ format.
Can you qualify without it? - Rated
I qualified some 6 years ago and I don't think I could have done it without my levison's!
I regard it as the dental nurses bible and should be carried with you at all times. It was especially useful when, preparing for my exams,I got a mental block as it is very concise and easy to remember.I still use it now to refresh my tired little mind!
I would recommend it to any trainee nurse!
Textbook for Dental Nurses - Rated
I have acually qualified as a dental nurse though the armed forces, but have yet to do my civilan qualification. I find this a good book to turn too when the old grey cells can't remember something, which was once taught to me. It has help keep me on top of information which you don't use on a day to day basis, it is simple and easy to understand with out elaborating to much.
Real points, from a real Student Dental Nurse - Rated 
A am a second year dental nurse, training in one of the Dental Hospitals in the United Kingdom.
I found this book, good for diagrams as there are plenty that do show great detail, but can show irrelevant information.
The index is long and rather long winded, but the index of abbreviations are very good and useful esepcially for part A of the National (if a abbreviation came up ofcourse).
The lay out is what I would describe as NOT a breath of fresh air. There are numerous paragraphs, along with a few words in bold. It is my preference for short notes, straight to the points, therefore allowing us to scoop all the marks we possibly can. For example the part B questions require bullet points/short notes, not paragraph after paragraph as the book shows.
I find this book good for reference in some respects, but nothing will surpass what my tutors have taught and their unflawless advice on taking on the exam. Whick eventhough this book "coaches" for the exam, it could do with advice on plannin the exam etc.
The end of chapter summaries are a little scatty, but in conjunction with ones notes and ones tutorials, one could build a very healthy folder full of everything a Dental Nurse needs to become a fully competent valuable team member!
