A waste of time. - Rated
I used this book in my preparation for my ST/staff grade interview. The format and layout are really confusing and it has a mish mash of things, most of which are not fully relevant, and as one previewer said, sometimes widely inaccurate.
A great guide - Rated
I used this book whilst preparing for two GP partnership interviews. It really helped to me clarify my thoughts. There was a definite improvement in the response of interviewers to my answers after having read the book. The book was easy to read & once read it was very easy to flick back to the important parts for a last minute reminder. I would happily recommend this book to both my medical colleagues and just about anyone else that has an interview coming up. Lots of useful advice that can be applied to any interview situation.
Quick and useful - Rated
I used this book just prior to my interview and found it to be refreshingly quick and useful. I got my first choice job using this book mainly so thank you gentlemen. I found that I had developed a solid approach to many situations and questions just by using the given tips. I suppose everyone is entitled to their opinion and may have a different experience. But for me this book was "spot on." I would recommend it any day.
Invaluable - Rated
I used this book as preparation for an interview onto a graduate entry medical degree, and found it a really handy "one stop shop" for preparing for my interview.
I appreciated the common interview questions section - it doesn't just give you a blueprint for your answers, but encourages you to think about your answers and what sorts of experience you should be drawing from. Other books that I looked at were just pages and pages of "perfect answers" to interview questions that were just not manageable. The questions that I had given a lot of thought to in fact came up at interview as well - very pleasing!
From the perspective of a reader who is not already in the medical profession this book saved me a lot of time researching the MMC, medical ethics, clinical governance and other important buzz words and acronyms. I can imagine that it would be a useful revision/refresher guide if you were already familiar with these terms.
I feel I cheated at my interview a little bit with this book; I didn't really have to put much more effort into reading from any original sources - but I got in, so will go onto read them now!
Too superficial. Not enough information to ensure success - Rated
I found that the books spent page after page referring to websites that one could read without giving a hint of how to answer some of the important interview questions. As an example, the answer to one question is that we should read the General Medical Council website. I think that, as it was written by doctors, the book could have been more comprehensive and should not let the reader do half the work.
