Customer Reviews

Fabulous Read! Buy This! - Rated 5/5
I found this book for my niece. Before wrapping it up as a post-xmas present, I found myself reading it from cover to cover, unable to put it down. My niece will love it - it's got spot-on humor for the 8-12 set and is clever and educational to boot. Another winner from the inimitable Anne Fine. (For a first-rate adult read, read Fine's The Killjoy - another prizewinner but for the grownups).

My son's favorite! - Rated 5/5
Very funny and entertaining. This is my eight year old's favorite book right now - he's now asking if he can take Russian lessons with the hope that a Russian student will magically arrive in HIS classroom.

I must admit I read it too after my son had gone to bed (I love Anne Fine's adult books), and really enjoyed it ...

A very funny book - Rated 5/5
A very funny and witty book. Gifted on Christmas day, finished by Boxing Day. This book is not just fun for the kids, it is also a really clever and amusing read for any adult curious to know what their nine year old is so engrossed in!

Wise, warm and witty, this is terribly good reading! - Rated 5/5
Tasked with looking after the new boy, Ivan who cannot speak English, Boris quickly finds himself embroiled within a moral dilemma as the comments Ivan directs towards his class-mates become ever-more inflammatory!

Comedy, chaos, communication barriers and classroom capers quickly ensue in perfect combination leading to a wholly cohesive and utterly satisfying read. Anne Fine has made dark humour her trademark and characteristically it is lavished throughout this novel in ways that are guaranteed to get guffaws and giggles from even the most staid reader. A worthy winner of the silver 2007 Nestle award, this short, highly engaging read is one that is not to be missed.

Hilarious - Rated 5/5
This so funny and so clever it will have children defying themselves not to laugh. A well earned prize winner.
