This one works for me - Rated
Even though my weight was well within the normal BMI range, i had that 'muffin top' over my jeans that having 3 children had left me with, wherever else i lost weight from, that remained. I must admit that i stuck rigidly to the 7 day plan, even though the clear soup took a little getting used to. I had an almighty headache at the end of day 1, but after that was amazed by how much energy i had and actually how my hunger disappeared after much less food than i would normally eat, i also stopped craving sweet things all the time. I lost weight steadily throughout the week and was amazed that i had lost 7lbs at the end. Even more amazing was that the 'muffin' was dramatically reduced. After being spoon fed a diet that had worked so well, it was nerve wracking going it alone the following week, but i stuck to the 10 principles and was really pleased that the weight stayed off and i actually lost another 1lb. This was all 4 months ago and the weight has stayed off, the 10 principles are really easy to get your head round, and i don't feel like i deprive myself of anything at all. The seven days at the start aren't easy and you have to be determind to stick to it, but it's only 7 days, it's a great kick start, and the results are well worth it.
The 7 day diet is amazing! - Rated
I did my 7th day of the diet yesterday & got on the scales this morning to find I had lost 8lbs! I knew I had lost some, but was expecting 4-5lbs at most. The first 2 days were awful, the first night I was soooo hungry, but didn't cave in, & the 2nd day just felt really weak & tired. From then on my energy levels increased, I actually started going for walks just for the walk & not because I needed to get anywhere. I have spent years doing Weight Watchers, Slimming World, Cabbage Soup etc etc, but have never had results as good as this. I'm now looking forward to the plan for life & adapting the 10 principles to my lifestyle. A must for anyone who is fed up of low calorie, low fat eating. I must admit, I threw the clear soup away on day 2 as it made me feel sick, & I did swap some of the meals to different days, but stuck as closely to what was recommended as possible. Buy it, if you stick to it you won't be disappointed.
Nearly fainted! - Rated
I have tried many diets, but I'm a foodie and I invariably get bored and fall off the wagon. However, I almost fainted on this diet which made me stop it. In the 7 day diet it suggests one breakfast as being a cup of hot water with lemon, followed by 1 (yes, one!) scrambled egg with 1 (yes, one!!) oatcake. It just simply isn't enough food for even a small child and I felt weak and almost fainted whilst in Tesco's. I feel that this diet made me obsess about food even more (which is usually the case when you're on a diet) and when it came round to eating, the food wasn't very nice and there just simply wasn't enough. I'm pleased other people found success but it just wasn't for me.
Well the 7 day diet works! - Rated
Ian recommends that you start with a 7 Day Diet, which has pretty small portions but I have to say that I didn't get hungry because you do eat every few hours. I found the food on the 7 Day Diet very tasty, mainly because you are encouraged to use full-fat products and I am so used to bland low fat alternatives. I was only able to follow the 7 Day Diet for 6 days because of a social engagement, but was chuffed to lose 7lb over these 6 days. I am now starting the 10 Principles and am enjoying them so far and am pleased to say that my 7lb's hasn't come back on so it can't all be water! One little criticism is that this book hasn't got many recipes so I have bought two of his other books to get some ideas about what to eat under the 10 Principles as I'm not quite ready to go it alone yet. I notice other readers have said that you have to spend lots of time in the kitchen cooking, but I can honestly say that on the 7 Day Diet I could prepare all the meals for the next day in 30 minutes in the evening, 30 minutes well spent if you can lose 7lbs in less than a week! When on the principles you spend about 20-30 mins cooking your dinner, so again this isn't any longer than I would usually spend cooking. All in all a good book and a good plan.
Frankly, amazing! - Rated
My wife and I had both agreed that we needed to lose weight. She found this diet. I was certainly up for it, but sceptical about the claims made for it. Frankly, I am absolutely amazed at the results. I started off at 14st 5lb; just two weeks later and I am down to 12st 8lbs (I've not been under 13st for over fifteen years) and I've very rarely felt hungry. I now have 11st 10lbs as my target and know that it's not that far away. Along the way we've been introduced to some foods I've never even heard of, such as quinoa, and some brilliant recipes. The diet does require you to spend a good deal of time in the kitchen - but then you know exactly what is going in to what you are eating (no Es, sugars, salt, monosodium glutamate, etc.) I originally saw this as a diet to go on for a few weeks to lose weight and I was prepared for necessary sacrifices. I suspect, now, that it will have changed what we eat for life - and we'll be much healthier as a result. The book itself, as you would expect from Dorling Kindersley, is very attractive with good photgraphs, easy to follow with clear text, and very well laid out. An excellent book on a brilliant diet.
