Full of Practical, Down to Earth Advice - Rated
I'm expecting my first baby so wanted a single book with practical advice that would go a little way towards preparing me for baby's first few weeks but also something that would be a good reference for the years to come.
This book fulfills exactly what I wanted. It doesn't make me feel like I will be a bad mother and has practical, down to earth advice. I like that it is written in a friendly style while treating the reader as an adult. There are lots of photo and boxes discussing "common concerns" like "Is it safe to breastfeed if I am ill". Since the introduction explains that the authors are practicing doctors as well as parents themselves I know that what I am reading is safe advice as well as being sensible. It doesn't seem to try and push any particular agenda and is reassuring - giving an overall feel of 'You can do it!' :)
There are sections for each stage of development up to 2 years, an excellent information on everyday care (ie how to change nappies, dress babies, bathing baby, help for breastfeeding and bottlefeeding, and "why your baby may cry".
The final section is on health and illnesses and incudes a first aid section, information on what to do if you are worried about your child's development and information about common childhood illnsses to help tell what is ok to treat with calpol and cuddles and what isn't!
Overall I love this book and think it is going to be really useful - I would recommend it to all first time parents and those doing it all again!
