inspirational - Rated 5/5
I loved the book - it made me laugh and nearly made me cry! Great to go on the storymakers journey and be inspired. Leaves you with a warm feeling

Parental Advisory! - Rated 3/5
My youngish child received this book from a relative who must have seen her reading another MM book from school. However, I quickly realised that it's simply not suitable for a child of her age. MM doesn't balk at tough subjects, but this selection includes: a child narrator dying and becoming a ghost, a child narrator witnessing the massacre and kidnap of her family and neighbours, experience of the holocaust, death, death and more death. maybe because of the short story format, these events seem all the more brutal becuase we have much less supporting writing to soften them.

These are all valid subjects, and fine for the right age-group in the right context, but nothing on the book cover or in the publisher's blurb make the nature of this book clear to buyers.

Treat with caution.

so sad to have finished these stories... - Rated 5/5
Stories to curl up by the fire with. Moving short stories told by the master story teller, most suitable for sharing with older children, I'm 44yrs and loved the read all to myself ! Most based around events in his own life that have influenced his story writing.

More Marvellous Morpurgo - Rated 5/5
This book changed my 9 year-old sons attitude to reading. Usually more into factual books, he loved the mix of mini-stories and real life accounts. He says the book made him have great dreams as he could picture himself in so many of the stories, particularly the excerpt of 'I believe in Unicorns'. Now he is crazy about all Morpurgo's books. If your child is reluctant to read, these short chapters are a great way to start an interest in the fabulous tales Morpurgo creates.

Fantastic - Rated 5/5
This is a wonderful book. We bought it recently after hearing Michael Morpurgo talk in England to 600 adults and children and keep each and every one rivetted for half an hour, even the five year olds.
Both our 14 year old son and 8 year old daughter adored it. Our son says he loved the way it explains how you turn an idea into a story and illustrates examples with real and autobiographical tales. It's rare that a book appeals as much to an eight year old, a fourteen year old and adults.
They also loved many of his other books, and our daughter has recently read Butterfly Lion, Wreck of the Zanzibar and Cool and loved them too.
