What a wonderful book - Rated
I was lucky to get a copy before publication through work, my wife teaches and took it first and came downstairs raving about it and made me and my 12 year old daughter read it! I have read it twice now and I still cried twice. Sally really has a wonderful ability to write with such feeling and reality, her clever use of reality within the story draws you deeper into the lives you are reading about. The message is so positive, but you will shed a tear or two. I had Sally visit our local school and talk to the children and she received the most tremendous reponse, we have put the book up for our book of the month with the reading club in Formby and have sold over 100 in 3 weeks. I would recommend every school in the country to take a copy and get it read, it helps with all sorts of issues and makes you think about what you can still do with your life, however much is left, live it as best you can. I can't wait for her new book and hope some of you take my word and that of other reviews for this gem.
Wonderful - Rated
This book is beautiful. From about half way through I was in a constant state of tears and awe at Sam's braveness. Sally's writing is incredibly poignant and she captures Sam's voice perfectly.
A great (if very sad!) and uplifing read.
stunningly good - Rated

A Book For All Ages - Rated
I bought this book for my ten year old daughter as something we could read together. We both found it to be one of the most heartfelt and touching books we have read. It was both uplifting and very very sad. Beacuse it was written through the voice of a 12 year old boy, it was an "easy" read that dealt with some very difficult subjects. Be warned - we both sobbed at the end and Sam's story stayed with us for a while. I think for older children it is a very accessible story, but it is also very readable for adults, and especially as a parent I felt a real poignancy for Sam's parents story. This book is really well written with perfectly drawn characters and a strong narrative that will stay with you long after you have finished reading it.
