Not quite revolting but certainly not great ..... - Rated 2/5
..... the only reason this book gets 2 stars and not 1 is that I actually continued to read it till the very end - perhaps out of the hope it would get better?

I was not familiar with Gisburne prior to reading this book and I will be giving him a miss in the future. The author prepares the reader not to expect a work comparable to those of Dawkins or Harris, or to expect much philosphical or scientific content, which is fair enough and absolutely true.

However, this guys smug self importance oozes from every page to a point it makes some sections hard to read. I found the content severely lacking in substance and am left mildly concerned that Gisburne is providing a rather unsavory 'evangelical' face for atheism - one I would hope not to be associated with.

Perhaps I was simply not a fan of Gisburnes style - apparently he is all over "You Tube" I would suggest you check him out online first before spending any hard earned money on this.

If you have done Dawkins et al try something like Robyn Williams "Unintelligent Design" I bought it at the same time as this and found it a really good 'not to technical' look at creationisms ugly sister - from a more sophisticated atheistic stand point.

Another attack on theists - Rated 3/5
not quite the substance and research that some other similar titles have. This book has little references and lacks a lot of understanding for what theism means to 'believers'.
It is however a good read with plenty of humour. the stance is primarily against Christianity and focuses on what are called extreme sects such as Evangelists. Towards the start Mr Gisburne explains why you should not argue with an Evangelist, then proceeds to devote much of his book on arguing with Evangelists. So why does Mr Gisburne try when others are warned away? many of the subtler arguments for atheism are missed out for the easy soft targets of extreme views. Would the book have been more productive in cataloging the list of anomalies and contradictions? It is nice to see more of these titles adding to the debate and giving confidence to those that are 'brainwashed' in infancy.

Valid arguments, little substance! - Rated 2/5
I bought this book due to the 5 star review I read, but have been deeply disappointed and rather regret my purchase. Having read many books by Dawkins and Sam Harris I was looking forward to another viewpoint on the subject. It's definitely original in its conversational style, but only buy this book if you don't mind a whole lot of swearing throughout. Gisburne himself states in the introduction: "I will not hesitate to use profanity as and when I think it is has a place . . . this is my attempt to show that religion deserves no more respect than your support for a particular sports team..." Overall I found the profanity unnecessary and undermined his arguments.

He makes a lot of valid points which I liked, however I was disappointed that these were not discussed in greater depth and backed up by other sources. This complete lack of references to sources of concrete evidence or accepted authorities further diminishes his credibility. With not a bibliography in sight, I felt his arguments lacked intellectual rigour, even though I agree with most of what he said. There are parts of this book that are clearly out to shock, which they do. However, it comes across as a self-indulgent rant rather than an objective and well researched analysis of the subject.

As Gisburne admits in his introduction, he's no Dawkins or Sam Harris. Very true! So if you want to read an argument that's pretty lightweight, then buy this book. For a more substantial and intelligent discussion of religion stick to Dawkins and Harris.

Not to be missed! - Rated 5/5
Of course, many people coming to this page will have first come across Nick Gisburne on YouTube. Well, to these people I say - if you liked his videos, you will love this book. And whilst some of the chapters are re-hashes of his videos, there is plenty new material for you to enjoy. You will not be disappointed - what you will read is pure Gisburne.

Or maybe, you've never heard of Gisburne before today. Perhaps you StumbledUpon his site, or heard people talk about him on Digg.com. To you, I say: buy this book, and you will not regret it. Nick Gisburne may not be as famous as Richard Dawkins, Daniel Dennett or Sam Harris; but the logic and precision he uses is just as devastating for religion. He cuts through religious rhetoric with one of the sharpest razor blades around, and yet still manages to maintain a healthy dose of humour and sarcasm throughout.

Overall, this book is not to be missed. From the 3-chapter refutal of the 'Great Flood', to the message that "God is threats", to "God's Almighty Genesis Diary", it is certainly worth every penny and much more.
