I'm making an assumptuion here that the book which is being called 'The Lesbian's Safety Manual' here, is actually 'The Lesbian SM Safety Manual' as I don't think Pat Califia edited two books with such similar titles! This was the first SM safety manual I ever found. It's a slim volume, so not too intimidating, but does contain sensible advice about safe play and safe sex. The advice is peppered with fiction which allows you to put the safety guidelines into an erotic context. There are so many more SM safety guides available now and I wouldn't say this one particualrly stands out, although it is charming - it looks as if it has been typed on a type writer! I found the article on the nine levels of submission very interesting.
