All round good information - Rated
Having previously done a C&G fashion course at Art school - in the 60's basic information is established, plus the many incidental tips gleaned from other professionals/friends/like minded folk along the way. This book confirms these and adds so much more, which by reading them, and the diagrams where appropriate, all help. It is an fascinating subject where one is constantly learning.
FABOLOUS couture sewing techniques!!!! - Rated
As an aspiring fashion designer studing a BA in Fashion. This book is amazing. The examples of techniques are clear (having experience in fashion it is understood). Clear concise photos/diagrams of the couture techniques. Correct use of needles and how to apply them to certain methods.
Studing fashion, machine based and quick finishes are applied but this book explains what couture actually is and how to achieve a professional couture garment. I would recommend this book to anybody heading down the fashion designer path and advise them to study it and try incorporate these methods within their own work.
Glad That I Bought It - Rated
I bought this book after reading the previous reviews and I'm glad I did. Lots of great information, photos and illustrations of garments and construction techniques which really help readers visualise the subject theme. Not a book I feel for beginners but a must for those with experience and a love of clothing construction.
A must for anyone who wishes to produce proper clothing - Rated
I bought this book in my last year of college and although i have been a professional fashion designer for years now i still believe this to be a bible for anyone in the clothing industry. Not only will it inform of the tips and techniques used in couture, The book will also inspire you to gain more knowledge in bespoke/couture and as result your own work and designs will florish, Trully brilliant well done Mrs Shaeffer.
I must finish with a warning though, This book is not for beginners and will only confuse those who are starting out. As the saying goes learn to walk before learning to run this book is for those who can run and have been working in the fashion industry or at home for some years.
