Words not pretty pictures - Rated
i actually thought this was an excellent book, i have a martial arts background and some of the descriptions and use of mental imagery etc are something i can relate to. Remember the mind controls the body (most of the time!). This isnt a book full of nice pictures, actually the illustrations are pretty bad but the knowledge behind them is very usefull. You have to READ this book rather than looking at big glossy pictures that explain things visually.
Ive put some of the ideas into practice and can say it definatly helps. Understanding the way your body works in relation to center of gravity/balance and the snowboard is key to improving your snowboarding i think.

Hugely disappointing. The illustrations are very poor quality. I found the writing far too vague to be of value as an intermediate. Its riddled with jargon yet there's no glossary or even a decent index.
Snowboarding made easy - Rated
Mental rehearsal is the way to bettering yourself with any sport. The author has really managed to get across the technics in simplistic, easy to follow terms. Guaranteed you will find ya self standing in the middle of your lounge trying out the moves!
New to snowboarding. . .?
This book has what you need to get you started on the slopes. It can never replace private lessons but it can help you understand why it is you do those strange things during lessons. It also has some great tips on what to look for in your equipment - helping you look cool as you fall.
Already snowboarding. . .?
This book helps you visualise the steps you need to take in order to help you achieve that next level - Feckin' awesome!

This book is brilliant. I read a friends copy each night before my snowboard lesson and it backed up / expanded on what my instructor had to say during the day. It's true the book is written in a very relaxed style but it reflects the laid back, jargon fueled humour that you'd expect from a veteran of the sport. It tackles both the technical and psychological aspects associated with boarding. The simple advice to "relax and commit" stuck with me and helped me through a few situations where I was scared to go ahead.
Ever watched National Lampoon's "Animal House"?? - The author of this book would most likely have been a Delta. - If you identified with the popped collar, sweater round the shoulders Omega's then best stay clear.

I bought this book on the strength of the good customer reviews here, but found Ryan's style of writing means that most of the 224 pages are filled with conversational and repetitive ramblings. The black and white illustrations are useless to the point of hilarity. I would never have bought this book if I had perused it in a book shop.
