Learning to love myself. - Rated As the other reviewer said, this little book is excellent and worth reading again and again. I am a student of a different tradition of Buddhism, so some of Pema's practices are alien to me, but what is the same for all traditions, and what Pema exemplifies, are themes of compassion and love for ourselves, warts and all. I am on the verge of making a commitment by taking the precepts and becoming a Buddhist "officially", but was having doubts because of my own inadequacy and habitual difficulties with certain of the precepts. Reading chapter 3 of this book made me realise I'm ok as I am, where I am right now. My only reason for awarding only 4 stars is that I for one don't read the dimensions of a book before I buy, so got quite a shock to discover how tiny this book is. Its size makes it excellent to fit in a pocket, but not so easy to read when your eyes are getting on like mine. If I was only allowed one book, this would be it. - Rated This tiny book has had a huge impact on my life. While I have often been glibly advised to live with kindness, or by the golden rule, I have never seen such clarity on HOW to live with kindness and compassion toward others, and especially toward self. This is a book to read over and over, to highlight and to underline. A book to absorb. Themes are joy, balance, fear, trust, kindness, openness, wisdom, perspective, courage, and awareness.
