I really enjoyed this book. There is a spirit of adventure through it and some very well observed detail. I think that the second half is very entertaining and there are some very funny encounters.
Only Sandy Mackinnon........... - Rated
As a student at Ellesmere College when Sandy Mackinnon was there, it is lovely to be reminded in such a tangiable way of the joy he found in adventure, drama and words. He always treated us as the adults we so wanted to be and with the same respect that he afforded to the other masters at college which, in a traditional public school, was a rare treat. It is this approach to life and people that shines so brightly through every page of this adventure and, to be able to put them into context with my knowledge of the man, I have laughed til my sides hurt, cried, giggled and marvelled at the achievement of this man and his beloved mirror. Even without the knowledge of the author and many of the places he visited, he is a consumate story teller weaving classic literature with beer and wine induced tales of hilarious mishaps and fortunate encounters. All credit to you Sir for a wonderful story and the hardest laughs I've had for a long time. God speed on your journies!!

A riveting read - Rated
I don't know what it is about Kiwis but they seem to have a talent for brilliant adventures.
His journey in a Mirror dinghy across England was fantastic, the places he visits and people he meets are all driven by the fact he is on the water. His trip across the channel is madness but opens a whole new adventure across mainland Europe
I couldn't put this book down.
Beautiful book about people and waterways across Europe - Rated
This book is beautifully written and a pleasure to read. The tale is extraordinary and kept me enthralled right to the end. I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone but if you have any sense of adventure or love of boats then it is inspirational.
