a good aid - Rated This book is helpful to the beginning bowyer, but it gets technical quickly, but it is well written, and helps you understand the reason bows do what they do. The section on bow performance and design is very good at getting the fundamental principles into your head, but it helped me, i felt to have read a basic bow building book previously, which was a book called Indian Bows and arrows, the old way. its on amazon, it helps feed the information in slowly, rather than overloading you with it too quickly good for anyone wanting help on making bows - Rated This volume covers making bows from boards, with particular emphasis on selecting suitable wood, eastern woodland bows, ancient european bows, composite (horn and sinew etc) bows, bending wood by steaming and heat, recurves, string making, steel broadhead hunting points, and a short section on quivers, is a good read but gets technical in places so helps if you are familiar with archery terminology. It would have been nice to have colour photos but it makes up for this with the sheer number of black and white ones.
