A better system - Rated Mill's principles contains some contradictions and miscalculations, the famous 'wage fund' thesis being a notable example. However, I would strongly recommend book four - 'the influence of the progress of society on production and distribution' - to anyone disilusioned with the greed and inhumanity of the capitalist system but yet to be convinced by the socialist or Marxist alternatives offered. Book 4, and in particular, the chapters on the stationary state and the future of the labouring classes, provides the economic theory that should, in my view, accompany Mill's liberal politics and Utilitarian philsophy.
