Book Details / Review - supplied by Amazon UK

Evoking the magic of childhood, "Apples for Jam" offers a collection of recipes that lead us into a world where preparing and eating food is a joy, where kitchens are filled with the smells of roasts, garlic and lemon, and where ice creams are flavoured with fresh fruit. "Falling Cloudberries" is an exquisite 'culinary memoir', a collection of recipes that have woven their way into the gypsy heart of author Tessa Kiros. Collected and adapted by Tessa since early adulthood, the recipes are as diverse in style and flavour as the extended family and households through which she has travelled. Presented in a beautiful slipcase, this will be a gift to treasure.

Customer Reviews

Inspired, evocative and great fun - Rated 5/5
As with her previous two books, Tessa Kiros has captured both my imagination and my taste for cooking. Apart from offering an extensive collection of original and uncomplicated recipes, this is also an enjoyable read, exuding family cosiness and joy of life. I can't wait for Tessa Kiros'next book!!

Beautifully illustrated - Rated 5/5
If you want a "just the facts, ma'am" type of cookbook this is not for you. However, beyond the good range of simple but inspiring recipes, it was the stories and pictures that are mixed in that really made this book for me. (NB: I didn't mind the colour-coding of the recipes as there is an alphabetical index in the back)

I will definitely be adding more of Tessa Kiros in my cookbook collection.

REAL Recipes . . . for Life! - Rated 4/5
This really is a lovely book filled with useable, inspiring recipes. It is one of those cook books that is interesting and attractive enough for browsing through with a nice pot of coffee as well as for selecting recipies for family meals that really work! Straightforward, short ingredient lists and easy to follow instructions - I have tried 20 or so recipes and they have all turned out a success! We have discovered some new supper dishes that have become firm favourites.
My only complaint is the light grey font colour - which also seems quite small - I don't usually need my specs for cooking! Maybe I should eat more carrots . . . . see the orange section!

Irritating sentimental stories - Rated 1/5
I had such high hopes for this book, but I find it so irritating I just can't read through it! I HATE the way the recipes are grouped by colour and I find the stories of the author's childhood memories that are peppered through the book hugely irritating! Aghh!!

Apples For Jam Review - Rated 3/5
This is a very pretty cookbook. There are lots of nice pictures. I was initially attracted to it for that reason. Also the recipes seemed straight forward and appealing, no fussy ingredients. I do like the book but I find the way it is organised by color a bit confusing. Additionally, the author has chosen to include many of her own children's drawings and her own memories of her childhood. These are sprinkled throughout and while they may mean something to her, they are distracting and rather sappy and overly sentimental, not a good addition in my opinion, just annoying. Overall, not bad, but I expected much more.
