Customer Reviews

Good beginner's book - Rated 4/5
I have waited until I completed my first half marathon until I wrote this review, and last week I am proud to say that I did! I had never previously run for more than a bus and feeling a little fat around Christmas was challenged by my younger brother to enter for a half marathon.

I began training with the help of this book and last week completed the Brighton half marathon in 2 hrs 16mins. This book's premise is that as a complete novice runner, you initially start with periods of walking - running - walking, and in time reduce the walking time required for your body.

It gives various 16 week training programmes depending on your predicted time of running a half-marathon (dependent on how fast you time yourself running one mile), but definately focuses on beginners just completing and enjoying the race. The training involves 2 short runs, and 1 long run per week, with cross-training days in between.

It is a quick read and very easy to understand. The only negative aspect is that is promotes certain energy drinks and bars throughout the text which I found off-putting, but other than that it was a great help for me.
