After reading the Black Magician Trilogy I was thrilled to find this series. Though it takes a while to get into the actual story, it is very well set up.
The creatures and people of the book are described perfectly and makes you wish you were in the book. There are however some parts of the book which are quite slow moving but the character backgrounds and persona's make up for it.
Though very different from the Black Magician Triology, I would urge fans to give the series a go!
Canavans continuing Saga - Rated
I found the whole age of five series to be a very good read. I began with priestess of the white, which was, as others have commented, slow to begin with but one you get into the story it is very enjoyable. I do think that some of the sub plots aren't really relevant to the story and the plot would be just as good without them. Never the less, Trudi brings together, romance, adventure war and magic all in the same story and what more could you want from a fantasy novel. I think her characters are well rounded and easy to imagine. After finishing my current read (The kingmaker, Kingbreaker series) I will move onto the magicians guild.
Brilliant Book - Rated
The intricate writing from the begining to the end of the book is wonderful. The way Trudi Canavan builds up the characters is brilliantly written.
I read this book after reading the second in the series and I couldnt put it down.
Recommend it to any one that likes magically fantasy's
good story but could do with being shorter - Rated
I've just finised voice of the gods and have found the whole series very good, i have prevoisly read the black magican trilogy and this one was quite diffrent. certanin things are very easy to guess and the story is very slow with lots of unneeded side stories, i still found all the pointless side stories intresting but at the end you feel like you have read 300 pages for nothing. if you have not brought the black magican trilogy yet i would sugest that over this, but if you have and injoyed it then go for this and you won't regret it. the reason i take 1 star off is for the slow story line and obvis plot.

I wanted to give this book a five because I did love it but I could not for a couple of reasons. The main reason I did'nt was because the story jumps around a lot. Although it is all very cleverly connected I felt frustrated as I wanted to read more of each section. Just as you get into reading about one character it flips to another. I think due to this the story did not hold me as passionately as it could have.
Also in places I found it lacking in emotional depth. This sounds really harsh but I do not mean it to be as the story was fabulous. I just wanted it to make me laugh and cry. It had the potential to but it did not take me to that extreme.
Now I will tell you why I loved this book. The individual characters were lovely. My favourites were Tryss,Danjin and Emerahl. Also you feel sympathy and admiration for certain groups. How could anyone read this and not fall for the Siyee and the Dreamweavers?
The complexity and detail of the story is impressive. The concept was interesting and there was good continuity. There is also mystery surrounding certain characters which makes me desperately want to read the second book.
My advice to a fellow reader would be do not give up on this one. Its an enjoyable relaxing read.
