let me not whinge from the start. this book does have it's virtues. there is a little table detailing all the bf 109 kits and their level of complexity. the helmut wick diorama is well made, and the tips on it's construction are good for starters.
but, in essense, it's virtues end here. in fact, what hit me when i read and re read all of this book in less than an hour was the sheer PAUCITY of information! with the bf 109 being such a popular choice among modellers, i would have expected a lot more out of osprey rather than this pathetic 60 page effort. plus, when you prepare to dish out hard earned cash for a work like this, you expect to find the extra bits.....the engines, the mountings or armaments for the superdetailing freaks, or a review of the photo etch series in the market, or resin detailing sets, or preferred masking sets, detailed walkarounds of the e and the g series down to the cockpits and the cowlings. instead, what we have is a coherent but shallow fare that you would have picked up on any decent internet modelling site anyway.....at no extra cost! in fact, an average scale aviation modelling feature on the bf 109 would give you loads more detail on how to approach the topic than this rubbish book.
to summarise: if you are new to modelling, try out other , well rounded offerings like mark stanton's book. if like me, you have been modelling for some time and are trying to build a better 109, then this is not the book for you. specially when the same amount of money will buy you a good resin detailing set for your bf 109 at hannants!

I recently purchased this book to aid me in constructing a Messerschmitt 190F from Hasegawa and I found it to be an invaulable aid for my project. The manual is well written with corresponding illustrations for each section so that you fully understand what the author is writing about. It details several different painting schemes and gives you a few ideas for it's own, well planned dioramas. There is a section detailing the different kits available from each manufacturer as well as talking about accessory and detail kits available to help you in your project. I found this book to be helpful and informative as far as making model kits goes, however, remember it is not a reference book - it is a modelling manual!
