Brilliant look at a neglected subject - Rated This is another of my reviews of the Osprey books by Duncan Campbell. I will stress Warfare in the Ancient World is best read first for an overview, then this or its companion volume Greek and Roman Siege Machinery. As said in other reviews, this is an excellent work, based on solid research with good analysis and interpretation. There are very good colour plates and good photographs. Little can be done to improve this work. Now Campbell has four books on siege warfare published by Osprey, I feel he could do well to publish a combined volume independently of Osprey (with some really good maps) that allows him much greater freedom of space to explore the subject better. I recommend this to anyone interested in ancient military history.

As said in other reviews, this is an excellent work, based on solid research with good analysis and interpretation. There are very good colour plates and good photographs.
