Cromwell tank - Rated A good, concise history of the development and service history of an important, if neglected, British tank. Well worth a read. Best of the Vanguard Books - Rated An excellent book on an average tank, as Mr Fletcher states the Cromwell was almost obsolete when it was introduced. The author obviously knows his subject and proceeds to entertain the reader with the vehicles history, technical statistics and insights on its actual performance. Compared to other medium tanks of the same weight it was fast, reliable and relatively well armoured, but the lack of a gun to deal with the frontal aspect of almost any german AFV proved to be its Achilles heal. Of all the Vanguard books this one seems to have that little more care and attention devoted to it, perhaps because the vehicle was often considered a second rate Sherman..
