The Mountaineers poet laureate - Rated 5/5
For all Climbers and more importantly non-climbers, Greig's narrative is sublime. Evocative and compelling, a gritty insight into an expedition to the Karakorum, perfect perceptions of the individuals involved and the trials and tribulations of a 3 month epic.
I have read many similar books, though as yet very little has come near Summit Fever in terms of painting the picture as it really is and remain a stonking read - Well done Andy!!

AN ARMCHAIR CLIMBER'S DREAM COME TRUE... - Rated 3/5
Imagine yourself, armchair climber that you invariably are, being invited by a well respected mountaineer to join an expedition to the Karakoram Himalayas to write a book about the experience. What would you do?

Well, if you are like Andrew Greig, notwithstanding lack of climbing experience, you find the invitation hard to resist, especially since the mountaineer who invites you, Mal Duff, is personally willing to put you through the paces on some of the local peaks to help you get into the groove of climbing. Before you know it, you find yourself on expedition in the Karakoram Himalayas headed to the Mustagh Tower.

This book is the author's account of how he found himself on a high altitude climbing expedition, what he did to train and get in shape for it, what he did when he got there, and what his perceptions were, as a former arm chair climber, of the expedition experience and climbing at high altitude.

His account is gritty, realistic, and he tells it the way he sees it, warts and all. Well written, though narrow in scope, it celebrates the roller coaster existence of being on a real live adventure ride that is the lot of expeditioners everywhere.

Too much talking, not enough climbing - Rated 4/5
Very well written. The author really makes the people come alive when you read it. You really feel that you know them and they are not just characters from a book. However the first of the book (they are not insight of the mountain yet)does drag on a bit

Mystical diary of a writer-climber visiting THE kingdom - Rated 4/5
Wonderfully written account of a novice climber's visit to the Himalaya while still fresh enough to smell the adrenaline. Somewhat cryptic to Americans: who knows waht a "bin-man" is or what "shuffling doss" means, or even what the value of a British Pound in 1985 was? If you do email me. Most wonderfully it caputures the beauty of this mountain kindom and it's people before trekkers and guided climbers mucked up the culture and countryside.
