Firstly... a great book! Really helps to see right into the heart of Asperger's without all the technical jargon. Therefore I'd say it's readable to almost anyone who can read, and especially those with the condition, although obviously its length (it can be read in 10-15 mins) means it's particularly ideal for children. Ok so onto my review title. You may well be wondering what all that is about!? Well basically believe it or not I actually prophesised this book which is kinda funny in itself as cats in mythology have often been portrayed as psychic vampires, though this no doubt stems from the fact they can tell if you're a cat person the moment they walk in a room. However I was mentally very unstable at the time (I'd just had a severe breakdown in China so I'm not claiming to be psychic) the climax of which occured after drumming along to the lion dance (make of that what you will). However with all the delusions and paranoia etc laced with Asperger's the one thing I had faith in was my cat and cats generally. Coincidentally my cat fell ill just before I went to China with an ear infection (this can be fatal in cats) but when I returned she'd recovered and was waiting for me on my messy desk as though trying to remind me that I needed to clear up to reinvigorate the chi flow in my room (I've read feng shui for you and your cat too). Also I put swastikas in my title as swastikas are also used talismanically as black cats are at weddings. Yet the 2 have been represented symbolically misrepresentedly through the years and cats have even been misrepresented as satanic. This conflicting ideology lead me to write a dialogue with a little spiritual guidance along the way from a fellow Asperger friend. What was born was a poem and dialogue using a lot of da vinci code style suppositions albeit more condensed. In short this book means the world to me and has been such a comfort. It is one of my bibles!!!
Just so great - Rated
A superb little book. I actually bought it for a friend for her birthday, we both work with children who have Aspergers and also is a cat lover - so it was spot on for a gift. I've got to admit having a sneaky read though before wrapping it up (but I did tell her!).
It's so informative and entertaining all at the same time. It would serve a purpose to share with parents who have just received a diagnosis or who have their suspicions. Therefore it is great to share with children as well - the pictures of the kittens actually tell the story more than the text does. The information is accurate yet presented in a non-threatening way. Excellent for those who are experiencing this form of special needs, are wanting to find out all about it or who work in this field.
That brings me to the pictures. They are high quality glossy images that are simply adorable but when linked with the text accentuates what is being passed on.
This could have been written about my son. - Rated
I was slightly dissappointed when I first received the book, I have been expecting a lot more writing, but when I began to read it, I was reduced to tears. I have a son recently diagnosed with AS and this could have been written about him. I think it will be a great book to give people who are finding it hard to accept his diagnosis and also a fantastic reminder for my husband and myself when our son is driving us insane with his quirky ways! Worth every penny, as are Kathy Hoopmann's other books.
Essentially a picture book - Rated
I agree with one of the other reviewers that this book is a bit of a disappointment. I was hoping for more in-depth discussion about Aspergers and perhaps about parallels with cat behavior, but the book consists essentially of pictures of cute cats with brief captions. I think it would be useful for reading to a child with Aspergers disease, and discussing with them, but it does not put across any information I did not already know.

This is a beautiful book, which gives basic information about AS in a non-threatening and very easy to read way. I have a small child with AS who has a special interest in cats, and this book made me smile, laugh and cry. It was also very useful to share with relatives who are reluctant to talk about AS or acknowlege that my son is different.
