Lovely girlie patterns - Rated
I have not yet knitted anything from this book, however on first glances it looks really fun. I have two little girls to please and a stash heaving with leftover bits of yarn from projects gone by. Hopefully the perfect combination! PS my eldest has a my first barbie and the clothes are the right measurements to fit that too!!
Fab knitting book - Rated
This book is great for knitters who want something a little bit different, it has lots of colourful, pretty pictures which make you want to knit up the items straight away. My only fault with it is that the author hasn't realised that penguins do not live in the Artic, they live in the Antarctic!
BRILLIANT DESIGNS, SHAME ABOUT THE PATTERN WRITING - Rated
Lovely, attractive designs but I am finishing the basic doll and already I have spotted two errors / sloppy pattern-writing. As long as you are not an absolute beginner, you should be able to work around these but not what you expect from such a simple pattern - if it was a more complicated pattern I could forgive the errors.
The decreases for the feet have been badly calculated so that when you follow the pattern you do NOT get the number of stitches Tracy says you should have. The decreases for the tops of the arms are also a bit messy. For these, just decrease the stipulated 4 stitches for the first 2 decrease rows and then simply cast off the remaining 8 stitches (instead of 4 for the next 2 rows). This will give you a neater, easier to match together look.
It looks like this book has been re-printed with another publisher, or at least some of the patterns have under the same title - I would hope that Tracy has re-checked and corrected the errors and would suggest that you try that book in the hope that they have! I am also hoping the rest of the patterns in this book have been written correctly. All in all, a good, attractively presented book but as I was buying for the patterns and not the pictures alone, I didn't want to have to make any changes/corrections at all - I was after mindless therapeutic knitting with a fabulous result. Having said that, a little concentration and you should be ok.
brilliant designs but not for beginners - Rated
I loved the design for this book, gorgeous full colour pictures and innovative designs for toys for babies and older children. My daughter has a list of things she wants me to make and it only came today! However it assumes you know how to knit and crochet already as there are no instructions for beginners on how to do these, Also some of the designs rely on you paying attention to the illustartions as the making up sections aren't that specific. Not one for beginners but delightful all the same.
