Customer Reviews

Fantastically silly rhyming book - Rated 5/5
This will get your tongue twisting around words. We love it and it has been a repeat favourite from the library. Was astonished at the hardback price of £15.99 on the back but you can get it for cheaper on Amazon. My daughter has sat throught his book since 18 months old and is now nearly three and still asks for it.

Loads of fun, read it again and again - Rated 5/5
My 6 year old son and I both love this book. The pictures are bright, detailed, funny and eyecatching. The text has good rhythm and rhyme, and the storyline is imaginative. The characters are endearing and engaging.

The tension in the story comes when one of the creatures is rejected by the others. At this point the pace of the rhyme slows to pathos.

However the problem is quickly resolved, an apology is given and the tea party gets into full swing. For the end of the story ... well, you're just going to have to read the book.

From an educational perspective, I bought this book and "Martian Rock" as introductory material for Key Stage 1 to a theme on planets at my local school. It could also be used in literacy as an example of the development of tension and resolution in a story, and even perhaps in music because of its strong rhythm. There are aspects of inclusion here too, why was the creature rejected and how was he then included?

If you have a preschool or KS1 child, then buy this book. You won't regret it. If you're a Primary or Infant school, consider this book for your library.
