ok if you know nothing about fitness, poor if you do - Rated
Perhaps I was a bit mis-lead on this book by believing that it would get me 'SAS FIT'. It is incredibly basic and I probably could have written a better one myself. Most of the information and tips are very obvious. There is no real training programme here to get you 'super-fit'which is what I was hoping for. Overall very disappointing.
Really good aid to getting fit. - Rated
I got this book after I came back off holiday in an attempt to getting myself back into shape. The book is really well laid out and offers some really good, realistic methods that are practical for people like me that work long and awkward hours. I managed to lose 12 pounds in three weeks and muscle definition improved at quite an early stage. The only slight downfall is the Stage Three workout which I imagine would be quite difficult to stick to if you have a busy job or a family but there is plenty to keep you more than occupied. It is also good in that it covers all aspects of fitness including Weights, Cardiovascular and Dietary advice. Very useful and a great aid suitable for a wide range of people.
Excellent - Rated
A very well written, easy to understand book. Books of this nature can be boring and lacking in inspiration, not this one! It's full of detailed photography and text that takes the reader into developing their own training program. It decribes the pitfalls and offers solutions to developing a fitness program for life. Excellent, buy it now! And get a heart rate monitor to fully benefit from it's content!
Motivation - Rated
As well as being very informative, the strength of this book is in the mythos surrounding the SAS. Everyone knows that these special men don't just appear in a test tube but are the by - product of discipline and hard work and knowing that this work comes from one of their own makes it all the more motivating. You soon become aware by the before and after photo that implementing the philosophies of Mr. Ryan into your schedule can reap exactly the same rewards, afterall, he, like you is simply a carbon based life form.
For men, this is a great work that ranks up there with the very best exercise books of Ranulph Fiennes. Written by somone who who gets fit for practical reasons rather than olympic medals, makes the subject a little more real.
Great all-round fitness book - Rated
I bought this book having already a fair knowledge of fitness and weight training but there were still things in it that I found useful. It combines various forms of aerobic training with numerous exercises for all the major muscle groups (both free weights and machines). It also gives good advice on the form for each exercise and the number of reps for various levels of fitness. I also found the section on food useful as it contained various tips on what to eat at certain places where you inevitably eat unhealthily, like the cinema or take-away. If you are looking to both increase you cardio abilities and also build some muscle mass then I would certainly recommend this book to assist you.
