Good introduction to Islam - Rated
I found this book to be well researched, well written and easy to read. The writer is interested in the spritual side of Islam and this can be seen in this work. But that adds to the book rather than takes away from it.
Although I didn't agree with all of the book its a great place for a non muslim to start reading and even a muslim will take some benefit from it.
Well worth reading.
simply amazing - Rated
If you want to know Islam from a profound perspective rather than amateur, then this is the book for you. I thought I knew Islam untill I opened this book. I just want to thank authors and hope God's blessings will be bestowed upon them for this great work. This book has answered many of my questions in a understandable and yet profound manner. I really recommend this book to people interested in Islam, as how it really is, and read it.
a great introduction to the depth of Islam - Rated
i am a convert to Islam and have become recently very worried by the more literalist and angry strain of thought that seems to be projecting out from "Islam". This book made me again feel confident that what i saw when looking in Quran (my initial reason for converting) was intuitivelty correct - Islam as a moral and principle based teaching, that helps us understand our posision in the world under our Creator (God, Truth, Allah, whatever you call Him).
awesom reading! - Rated
This is a must reading if you want to know about Islam! Unlike many other shallow books with stereotipical coverage on Islam, The Vision of Islam presents a conspicious picture of how Islam is perceived by Muslims, and is it not THIS what readers on Islam should be interested in???
Best book on Islam for Western audience, I think - Rated
I've read this book and so far it's the best one that describes the way Islam is actually seen through Muslim eyes (by apparently non-Muslim authors!). The way the book approaches the subject is also fresh (beginning and building upon the Hadith of Gabriel) and evidently sufi-inspired. This book really is a revelation of sorts - which is kinda weird considering that I'm a Muslim myself! Admittedly some parts of the book is very hard to follow when it delves into the realms of the metaphysical, but that shouldn't put you off: precisely because of this 'difficulty' that I become seriously interested in comparative religion and philosophy in general. In fact, I'm here because I'm trying to get a good copy of The Vision of Islam at an affordable price (new ones a bit out of my range, sigh...).
