sewing ligerie tricks - Rated
although the book does not include any paterns or prduct informatin, it does contain lots of idea and techniques for finising and enhancing your own lingerie.
Informative book - Rated
I love this book, it explains how to make lingerie in simple terms. Obviously it doesn't have patterns in it but then what book on sewing does?? It gives information on different seams, elastics, fabrics, which you don't get in ordinary sewing books. It's really inspired me to get sewing again.
Great sewingtips for lingerie - Rated
This book is exactly what I expected. I new there weren't any patterns in this book, but it is a great guide for helping you with the special tips and tricks for sewing lingerie. It learns you how to handle lace and special elastic fabrics. It also shows you in nice illustrating pictures how to apply the parts of your pattern together.
Good for showing you techniques, but description misleading - Rated
As the previous reviewer said, this book has no patterns. However it is full of excellent tutorials on how to sew lingerie which would allow someone to take full control of a pattern and modify to suit - like changing placement of lace etc. Definitely good for a beginner starting out, but if you've learnt various ways how to sew lace on, don't get this book, as that is the majority of the content.
nice book but you still need to buy patterns to make the lingerie! - Rated
Right so this book is recommended in a few sewing magazines as a nice book and a good one if you want to learn how to make your own lingerie, and because it's a new release.
Firstly yes it is a nice book and yes it does give you the low down on the various techniques, but honestly I'm not all that sure you need this book to tell you how to do it, when the patterns you have to buy to make the lingerie pretty much tell you that anyway. It all depends on whether you need tips on what fabrics to use or how to apply lace edgings etc.
QUOTE from synopsis: "Sewing Lingerie is your step-by-step guide for sewing intimate apparel, loungewear and sleepwear. Slips, panties, tap pants, teddies and nightgowns are just a few of the garments featured.
Yes they are 'featured' as the quote says but only as in tips for each, not patterns for each. I know the synopsis says this already but it bears repeating. There are no patterns in this book aside from a half slip which is a basic square and a kimono which is several basic squares and honestly who needs a book to tell you how to sew squares together?
So if you want to learn techniques which the book claims are 'innovative' and 'interesting' (but I have in other books that are much older)then this book may be for you. I bought it because I wanted to see what else was in there and also because of something featured in a sewing magazine that I thought I might want to make (sadly I bought the book only to find that the pattern for the particular item was not in it and had to be purchased, so really I only needed to purchase the pattern!)
It gets three stars because it's not a bad book if all you want is to learn basic techniques for sewing lingerie that aren't really very innovative, it has nice pictures, and it doesn't hurt to have another reference book handy. But unlike some other books, there are really no patterns to speak of, so you will still need to buy commercial lingerie sewing patterns (most of which are quite dated) and then maybe use some of these tips to improve the look.
