This book may help you find a deeper understanding into your life, and to better yourself. It gives you insight to the basic steps of meditation.
His Holiness gives you guidance on how to practise compassion and mental calm.
How to live a meaningful life. The Dalai Lama's Book may get a bit on the heavy side
But read it to the end, it may help you to understand the way Buddhists see life.
Amazing to read. A big up for His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
Ahh now i get it ... - Rated
Be well warned ; this little book is , @ times , very hard going ( progressivly with each chapter ). However , there is a very good reason for this : the teachings a given very succinctly and they are/appear to be rather profound explainations of extremly important buddhist concepts .
That said , this book has proven to be of great help to my understanding of impermanence and the role thought plays in our view of reality . After reading this book i feel i understand a few others much better ; i now "know" one meaning of what , previously , opaque comments were intended to convey .
Highly recomended .

I was a little dissapointed with this book. If you are used to reading the smaller Dalai lama books or perhaps'the art of happiness' you will, like myself, find this book hard going. The language is not easy to understnad and one has to re-read many sntances several times over to understand.
A very precious tool for understanding ultimate reality - Rated
This book by His Holiness the XIVth Dalai Lama and Jeffrey Hopkins reveals, in a straightforward and accessible manner, how to understand and meditate on ultimate reality, the emptiness of inherent existence, according to the presentation of the Madhayamika Prasangika system of thought. It largely follows the presentation of instructions as outlined in the Middle Length Lam Rim by Je Tzong Khapa, which is considered by many to provide one of the clearest elucidations of emptiness in the literature of the Gelugpa school. Besides that His Holiness provides stepwise meditation advice at the end of each of the chapters, easy to put into practice and highly effective in deepening an understanding of the topic. A treasure for those wishing for a classical and yet concise and practical presentation of emptiness according to the Madhyamika system.
