A book for coping with bereavement - Rated
I found it to be a well-written, helpful and uplifting book. Colin Fry does not only recount some of his most memorable cases but spends a long time 'talking' you through your grief and and encouraging you to live your life as fully and as happily as possible. I read this book following the recent death of my father. I have to admit I cried through most of the book! It touched a lot of nerves but strangely, by the end of the book, I can honestly say that I feel much better. I really don't think there can be any who doubt Colin Fry's sincerity or doubt that his raison d'ĂȘtre is simply to help and comfort people with their loss. A wonderful book. My sincere thanks to the author - obviously a very special man.
Quality book, by a quality man. - Rated
I read this book on Holiday, and was enthralled by the words of comfort, support, and good old fashioned positive thinking,! that in a fast moving world as the one we live in today, it made stop, and take stock, re-asses, prioritise and move on!
I wanted to leave my copy in my hotel book shelf for all to share, but knew I would want to read it again, and again!
I am home now and reading it for a second time, A Brilliant Read, Congratulations and sincere thanks to Colin Fry for sharing his vocation.
Live in good spirits - Rated
Colin, being well aware of his popularity, has written a book which nevertheless resists the temptation to be all about himself and instead, and with the best of intentions I think, goes through a variety of self-help and life lesson techniques, drawing on Colin's considerable knowledge as a bereavement counsellor. Mediums can get a bad press and even be confused with illusionists such as Derren Brown and Marc Salem who are very highly skilled in their own right. Whilst my understanding of mentalists' craft is pretty good (although not comprehensive) I don't see true similarities with proper (ie genuine) mediumship. This book includes an insight into how mediums may receive messages and help people. It also touches upon how Colin "ticks" and how he fully developed to much success in this sphere. He touches upon inspiring examples such as the seemingly random visitors who actually turned out to be in his life for a very good reason indeed, as he engaged in the humdrum of running his family's carpet showroom. We learn of important influences such as Michael, and Colin's view of friends and other coping mechanisms. The famous trumpet incident is gone into and described as inspiration to not let setbacks, however they may be perceived by others, to hold you down. Some of the mediumship examples and inspirational stories come from Colin's television programme, 6ixth Sense, but he adds greater value by explaining in some depth as to what he and the sitter derived from the encounter. Although the book does at times pump out cliched pop psychology, it's message about making the most of now would frankly be hard to convey in any other way. Worth every penny despite the relatively thin autobiographical content, you'll find priceless pearls of Colin's wisdom shining from page after page in that warm, charismatic way of his. A book for those who need to heal as much as followers of spiritualism; indeed, you don't have to believe in psychics to get plenty from this book, and as such it's highly recommended.
