As funny as I remembered them - Rated This is a compilation of 12 William stories on 3 CDs, read superbly by Martin Jarvis: Aunt Florence and the Green Woodpecker The Plan that Failed William and the Begging Letter A Question of Exchange William and the Temporary History Master The Outlaws and the Tramp A Few Dogs and William The Outlaws and the Missionary William the Good William and the Young Man William and the Spy William and the Badminton Racket The William stories, about the incorrigible 11-year-old William Brown and his gang of 'Outlaws', were written by Richmal Crompton starting in the early 1920s, with the last book in the series published in 1970, after her death. The stories in this audio compilation are selected from several different books. Apparently the stories were originally aimed at adults, and actually the language in the books is quite complex; I would say that younger children may struggle to read them for themselves. These audio versions read by Martin Jarvis are easier for children to follow, and stand up well to repeated listening. Although the stories have dated in some ways, they are still very funny, and the audio versions should be enjoyed by children from about 8 or 9 upwards while entertaining adults as well. Great for listening in the car.
