Funny and worryingly easy to identify with... - Rated
This was such a funny book-it made me laugh out loud. It is easy to identify with the main characters but best not to pass on to recently separated friends.
ENJOYABLE READ - Rated
I found this book very light and easy to read and could not put it down. The writing was brilliant and so funny, reminded me of the Bridget Jones books. Could easily see it being made into a great film. Can't wait to read her next book.
Review Getting Rid of Matthew - Rated
I bought this book because I saw it advertised on the Richard and Judy show and they it recieved very positive feedback.
I found the book to be very intersting however, it was quick predictable and not as good as I expected it to be
Not bad - Rated
This was a funny book with but I have to say I was extreamly disappointed with the ending. It was just to good to be true- or am I being cynical?
Great plot, bad writing - Rated
I was initially drawn to this book because I really enjoyed This Life and Teachers, so I was surprised when I started it only to discover that it was appallingly written. On closer inspection Jane Fallon was a producer on these shows and not a scriptwriter... thank god! However, I thought that the actual story was great, even though it was completely implausible at times - but, of course, great stories often require you to suspend your disbelief.
The office scenes were really good, as was the way Helen's friendship was built up with Sophie.
I look forward to Jane's next one, as she obviously has a talent with plots, but I'm hoping that Penguin get themselves in gear and assign a decent copy-editor to work on the manuscript. It's a shame because the bad writing often got in the way of the plot, requiring the reader to re-read the long and incomprehensible sentences. And also it's very uncharacteristic of Penguin to allow such lax writing to slip through the net.
