Customer Reviews

Not a lot - spread thin - Rated 3/5
On the glowing 5 star recommendations of six other reviewers I had high hopes for this mini paper-backed sized book with hard covers. In spite of its limited page real estate the content, whilst mainly pertinent and mostly accurate, is spread far too thin. It's like my bank account, not a lot in it. This is a niche area which is far from oversubscribed. There was huge opportunity here to make a significant impact on an area of increasing general public interest. It wimped out. Maybe somebody else will do better soon. Let's hope so. Until then hang on to your cash and Google a few good queries on the Net.

Common sense... - Rated 4/5
It's amazing how common sense goes out of the window when we e-mail! This great little book is full of tips on how to regain some sense of normality when communicating through this most useful but also often most frustrating channel. Well worth a read... it may change your life!

A breath of fresh air... - Rated 5/5
For someone whose computer definitely took over her life the day she got her first computer (in the days when it was a black screen with orange type and no solitaire) and who wastes a great deal of her current working day sifting through tons of spam emails this brilliant book was very much needed.

It's full of great tips that actually work - due in part, I'm sure, to the fact that the author practices what he preaches. Anyone who reads it will find themselves relating to someone in the book (I confess I'm an detail lover) and like me will enjoy working out who everyone else in the office is. I would recommend this to everyone who ever deals with email at work or at home. My only wish - that this book had been written sooner as I would have had a pay rise and less grey hair.

From a grateful e-Survivor ! - Rated 5/5
Like many others, I am of the age where I saw the introduction of email into the workplace. I witnessed how quickly it dominated over letter writing and even the telephone, as the way to communicate with people both in and out the office. I found the Email Survival Guide fascinating because it mirrors my experience and accurately describes how email is used and misused in the workplace today.

The great thing about this book is that it deals with human nature and not programs, utilities, bits and bytes. I am already using the guidelines and methods Paul Johnson lays down to manage my emails and win back control over the technology.

But I have to say the title is misleading because the book goes much further than just surviving email and basic etiquette. The case studies in the book helped me to understand how people read my emails and how they write their own. Thinking about these case studies in relation to my job and colleagues brought about one of those "light switch moments" of enlightenment. In a couple of weeks I have found that I communicate better and have raised my profile in my company.

I need to thank the author. I would send him an email to say "thanks".....
but having read his book, I now know this is not good practice!

Christmas Solved! - Rated 5/5
This great book was recommended to me by a friend. It is extremely readable and beats checking your email for sheer entertainment value on the commute to work.
It made me realise how much time I wasted during each day dealing with my emails as soon as the little box appeared at the bottom of my screen. Allocating a specific period in my day to do this (as the book recommends) has really helped my efficency and concentration. It includes tips to ensure you stay out of the 'loop' that you'd rather not and don't need to be in.
This book will make a great stocking filler at Christmas. I'm going to buy it not only for those people for whom I never know what to buy as they don't have any hobbies because they are slaves to their PC's. But also as a gentle hint to friends who seem to have lost the art of picking up the phone to keep in touch and instead rely on email.
Actually now I come to think of it maybe my friend was trying to tell me something!!
