Why hunting won't go away - Rated 5/5
At the countryside rally Baroness Anne Mallalieu said: "Hunting is our music. It is our poetry. It is our art. It is our pleasure. It is where many of our best friendships are made. It is our community. It is our whole way of life."
On reading Red Letter Days you might think she forgot to mention it's probably most like sex!

Those of us who understand that link tend to live well and laugh often.

Either way, Mr Knight Bruce describes something elemental in our nature. He writes broadly with a contagious enthusiasm and sympathy at the same time - more power to his elbow.

A romp through the British countryside - Rated 5/5
THIS is a book about the sport of fox hunting and its enduring role in the British way of life. Packed with anecdotes, the author's exploits embrace the landscape from his home county of Devon to the lowlands of Scotland.

Far from being expunged by the misguided prejudices of urban politicians, fox hunting has taken on a new lease of life, and those at a loss to understand why need look no further than this book. There is so much more to it than just a bunch of toffs wearing red coats and killing foxes. Underlying the exercise is the deeply entrenched sociability of the countryside, the horse trials, the pony clubs, the pubs and the point-to-points. This is the world that Rory Knight Bruce understands, knows and loves, and it has no better champion.
