Interesting new crime writer - Rated
I'm always interested in a new crime writer, and this drew me in with the cover and the first few pages. Although the serial killer/police procedural has been done many times before, this is an interesting take on it, and doesn't have an excessive amount of procedure to bog it down. The writing is good; I found the opening very creepy (as it should be!) and wanted to keep reading. I'll be looking out for her next book.
Excellent debut - Rated
I enjoyed this book a lot. Contrary to come of the more negative reviews on here, I thought the charachters were interesting and likeable, and the pace was good, I hate reading crime thrillers where it's all dragged out to fill pages, but in this everything kept going reasonably quickly and the story developed well.
I did have an inkling who the killer was but this didn't stop me from enjoying it. There was one slight disappointment towards the end, as to what happened to the culprit, without giving anything away, but possibly there's a reason for that. You'll know what I mean if you read it, and I would certainly recommend it. I will look forward to her next book.
Absolutely superb - Rated
Can't wait for the next book. This was a superbly written, unputtdownable book - good characters, plot, everything about it made you think it was not a debut novel. It's always good to find a new writer of this genre, and she is shaping up to be one of the best if this is anything to go on.
Real Page Turner - Rated
Truly brilliant read, didn't want to put this one down. Suggest you get comfy when you start the book as you will be in the same place for a long time, a real page turner. Can't wait for the next one.
Highly Recommended - Rated
It's hard to believe that this is Forbes' first novel.
The plot centres around a series of deaths of vulnerable young girls and women which appear at first to be suicides. The chilling deaths continue and DI Mark Tartaglia and his team investigate to find the connection between the victims which will lead them to the killer's identity.
The plot moves at a fast pace with characters that are deeply drawn both in their professional and personal lives and this is developed skillfully as the novel progresses. The killer is a standard psychopath but even he examines the "why?". The only thing that I think would enhance this novel is if a little humour crept into the characterisation - similar to Stuart McBride's style.
The ending has been done in this way before but I thought this was effected well and leaves you expectantly waiting for the next in the series.
Overall this is an exciting mystery-crime-police procedural - highly recommended.
