This book is aimed at coaches of young, inexperienced gymnasts. It provides accurate diagrams of the basic shapes that all coaches of gymnasts should understand and gymnasts should be able to execute.

The book is broken down into logical chapters, including individual chapters on warming up and strengthening, as well as the expected chapters about the apparatus. Each chapter starts with the very basics and leads up to moves that can be competed in a gymnasts first competition.

The use of diagrams is very effective, especially when describing progressions for moves, circuits for the gymnasts to use, and efficient use of apparatus and space.

I find this book a great help when planning sessions for my younger and inexperienced gymnasts because it contains diagrams that break down the basic moves, strengthening exercises that compliment and aid the development of these basic moves and also progressions and suggestions that can be used when teaching these moves.

If you've just starting coaching gymnastics, this book is extremely helpful, as the book covers many aspects that are covered in lower level coaching courses run by the BAGA. But if you've been coaching for many years, the book contains so many ideas, there's no doubt that you'll learn something new!
