Good walking guide to Malta - Rated
Just spent the 1st week in April 2006 walking in Malta using this book. Spent 5 days in Sliema, doing walks to the Chadwich Lakes, Dingli and Rabat using buses. Found the walks quite short - 2/3 hrs and normally combined 2 walks in a day. Some of the descriptions are hard to follow, sometimes it's easier to follow the map, however we did complete all of them. None of the walks are hard physically.
Spent the last 3 days in Gozo, stayiung in Mgarr. Gozo was far better - more dramactic scenery, less built up, fewer dogs. Did all 4 Gozo walks in the book and they are by far the best, particularly walk 26 - the North East coast walk through Qala and Ir-Ramla. Would definitely recommend you vist March - May, whilst all the flowers are out and before it gets too hot.
Also had the Paddy Dillon - Cicerone book with us, but didn't find it as good as this, walk descriptions less detailed and maps not so good.

Standard Sunflower format - 3 car tours; thirty 2 to 3 hour walks; bus & ferry timetables and an over-view fold-out map. Nearly all the walks are accessed by bus - with different start and stop points - so expect complications if you attempt to drive to a start point and create your own 'circular' variant. Some starts points are uneccessarily complicated - leaving the impression that your map-reading or guide book reading is failing. Some walks appear to be 'creations' - merely wandering in an area by every possible track or lane - not to get anywhere, but simply to pass time in an unspoiled area - relax and enjoy the peace and quiet while it still exists. Overall, not one of the simplest Sunflower Guides - but offering access and suggested routes away from roads and the standard tourist sites.
